Reliable journalist: Leeds set to arrange first pre-season friendly in next few days
Leeds United are hoping to arrange their first pre-season friendly in the “coming days”, according to Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross.
The Leeds players have been back in training since last Thursday, although manager Marcelo Bielsa is technically working for free after his contract expired at the end of the season.
He’s still locked in talks over Leeds over a new deal, although no one seems worried about the prospect of it not happening.
This is mainly because Bielsa is at Thorp Arch taking training, according to MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson and others.
And Cross said, “No doubt, Bielsa’s daily trips to Costa in Wetherby wearing the club’s new Adidas training gear do wonders for your blood pressure and hope for what lies ahead.”
And Bielsa’s preparations could see Leeds play their first game as a Premier League outfit very shortly.
Cross said, “The kit’s done. Everyone’s seen the leaked image with Joe Gelhardt. It’s coming, probably at the end of the month. Friendlies too. There’s hope one may be arranged in the coming days.”
While other clubs travelled to play friendlies ahead of the 19/20 season resuming, Marcelo Bielsa decided to play intra-squad games at Thorp Arch instead.
With the Coronavirus pandemic still causing issues in the UK, this could yet be the direction Leeds take again.
Alternatively, they could decide to play local rivals to test players in a more competitive environment.
Either way, it will give Leeds fans the chance to check out some of the new signings that the club has added.
Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Illan Meslier are all familiar faces, but Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh could feature in the first pre-season friendly and we’re fascinated to see what they can do as they look to impress Bielsa.
