Reliable journalist: ‘Growing belief’ this will be outcome for Leeds in critical EFL vote today
All 71 FL clubs will meet today in the last major meeting before the Championship restarts and it looks like Leeds United will get the news they want to hear.
As with the Premier League meeting scheduled for Thursday, the main topic of discussion is what will happen in the event of curtailment.
Different proposals have been put forward, including one from Barnsley (bottom of the Championship) to take relegation off the table.
The EFL’s recommendation is unweighted points-per-game, which would see Leeds promoted as champions.
The EFL wants promotion and relegation across the board with a four-team play-off for the third promotion place.
Amendments to this have been put forward as well and there will be multiple votes by all 71 clubs.
According to Amitai Winehouse in the Daily Mail, there is a “growing belief” that the EFL recommendations will be voted through without modification.
Following this, all three leagues are supposed to vote on whether to play on. The Championship has already said it wants to play on and the fixture list was announced yesterday, with Leeds playing Cardiff first a week on Sunday.

What do Leeds want?
Leeds will be very happy if the EFL recommendations are passed – they want relegation to be kept on the table.
It looks likely that the Premier League and the Championship will play out but to cover all bases, Leeds do not want a precedent set that could be used by Premier League sides to block relegation from the top-flight.
Barnsley’s proposal is the worst – that covers no relegation across all the leagues.
There is an amendment from Stevenage too, which would block relation from League 2. That’s not so important but Leeds would want relegation across the board.
We’ve got a lot of sympathy for certain teams in League One, with that division looking like it’s going to end.
Only four League One teams took up the offer of Covid-19 testing and that just doesn’t look like it leaves them any time to complete their games.
We’ve heard that the votes should happen today, although a report in the Times claims that the votes from the separate leagues on playing on or not will happen on Wednesday.
