We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has hailed Ian Poveda and Raphinha after the two players scored for the Under-23s on Sunday.
Leeds Under-23s beat Norwich 2-0 in the game with Poveda scoring after just two minutes.
Both Poveda and Raphinha are waiting for their first starts in the Premier League but have impressed when they’ve come on as substitutes.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It’s good to see Poveda and Raphinha scoring – it shows they’re fit and approaching the Under-23s games with exactly the right attitude.
“They want to score, they want to perform and they want to show the manager that they’re ready for the first team.
“It would be easy for players like Poveda to say ‘I’m not in the team, I’m playing for the Under-23s’ and to just go out and go through the motions.
“Poveda and Raphinha clearly aren’t doing that and that shows the attitude that’s all the way around the squad at the moment.
“When you see Poveda and Raphinha dropping down and scoring goals it gives you an idea of the spirit around the squad at Leeds. It’s so good to see.”
Poveda put down a marker in the 1-1 draw against Man City when he changed the course of the game.
But his fantastic attitude has been noted by fans as he’s always seen with a big smile on his face around the club.
Raphinha has looked devastating when he’s come on as a sub and he might just need one start to prove to Bielsa that he should be a regular in the XI.
