Raphinha stuns Michael Owen in Leeds United 1-0 win over Crystal Palace

Raphinha left Michael Owen drooling on Wednesday night as Leeds United beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Elland Road.

The Whites claimed a hard-fought victory against the Eagles with the Brazilian the star of the show as his late penalty kick proved to be the difference between the sides.

Speaking during half-time analysis for Amazon Prime Video (30 November), ex-Liverpool striker Owen was effusive in his praise for the 24-year-old.

“You’re looking down on this right-hand side, Raphinha, he’s done some poor things, don’t get me wrong, but wow, I’d pay for a season ticket just to sit here and watch him all day.

“He’s got great feet, a great whip on him as well. He could be a difference-maker.”

Owen was proved to be right as Raphinha scored the only goal of the game in West Yorkshire.

It wasn’t a stunning individual goal where Raphinha beats three men on with pace and skill, or a scorcher from 30-yards.

But it was still special as the Brazilian won the battle of minds with Palace shot-stopper Vicente Guaita to cooly dispatch his penalty.

Raphinha was a menace all game as he was desperate to snap the Whites out of their three-game winless run.

It was a big call to take the spot-kick with Rodrigo on the bench, the Spaniard having scored from 12 yards late on against Wolves last month (23 October).

But Raphinha is nothing but confident, and he showed his star quality with Tuesday night’s winner.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are plotting a January move for this La Liga centre-forward as Marcelo Bielsa ‘Demands’ signing.
