Premier League and EFL in dispute over key Leeds issue, FA might have to break deadlock – report

The next transfer window is going to be absolutely key for Leeds United and the Premier League and EFL are said to be “locked in dispute” over how long it should stay open for.

The Daily Mail claims that EFL sides want to keep the window open until at least January as many see trading and trimming squads vital for survival.

The Premier League wants to keep to or stay close to the UEFA directive that wants the window closed by October 5.

That’s in line with registration for the European competitions.

Ahead of the Coronavirus outbreak, Championship clubs had voted to close their window in line with the Premier League at the end of August.

Now, the Premier League thinks that it could have to call on the FA to break the deadlock between the two governing bodies.

Big window for Leeds

There are two different scenarios for Leeds this summer.

They go on and get promoted, which is looking highly likely, and they use the upcoming window to strengthen for the Premier League.

Of the four options the Premier League is considering, we believe that a slightly longer window than UEFA is recommending would really suit Leeds.

The extra two weeks would give them a chance to hoover up some talent from Europe at a reduced price, with clubs suffering from the Coronavirus outbreak. Orta has been scouting the European leagues extensively.

The other scenario is too painful to mention. Somehow Leeds conspire to mess up promotion and stay in the Championship.

If that’s the case, Leeds would probably want the window to stay open longer. They will need to perform radical surgery on the squad, with a wage bill that’s currently unsustainable in the Championship.

Either way, it’s a key issue for Leeds that Victor Orta will be following very closely.
