Polish journalist gushes over Mateusz Klich as Leeds United ace shines in World Cup qualifier
Leeds United ace Mateusz Klich impressed Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk with a stunning assist for Poland in their 1-0 win over Albania on Tuesday night.
Klich, 31, set up the only goal of the game in Tirana as Karol Swiderski scored to keep Poland’s qualification hopes alive.
After the goal, Polish players had to walk off the pitch due to missiles being thrown at them by the home supporters.
However, Klich will have the last laugh with Meczyki reporter Włodarczyk waxing lyrical about the Leeds midfielder the game.
He wrote: “During the break, [Poland manager Paulo Sousa] introduced Mateusz Klich, who gave more mobility. Then Karol Świderski appeared on the pitch, replacing Adam Buksa – tired of duels with the center-backs of his rivals.
“The substitute duo gave us a goal that turned out to be worth three points.
“Klich played a phenomenal ball, and Świderski again proved that he is an ace in the manager’s deck.”
Take a bow, Mateusz. You won’t have many better assists than that one in your career.
Klich has had a mixed year at Elland Road with the Poland international struggling to find consistency in the Premier League.
Last term, he didn’t really fill fans with confidence in the middle of Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield but there has seemingly been some improvement this season.
Klich has started five of the club’s seven Premier League matches, scoring in the 2-2 draw with Everton before assisting Raphinha’s goal in the 2-1 loss to West Ham.
He’s a jack of all trades as a midfielder who also has bundles of energy. Not many players can boast that and we do see it every now and then for the hard-working 31-year-old.
But Klich is going to turn 32 at the end of this season and he’ll also enter the final two years of his contract.
Hopefully we see him continue to impress at Elland Road but the midfield is clearly an area that needs to be improved upon and Bielsa is likely to know that too.
Klich has to step it up and perform more consistently.
But if he produces moments of magic like that Poland assist with Leeds, he’ll surely keep himself a spot in Bielsa’s starting line-up for seasons to come.
In other Leeds United news, Rio Ferdinand reacted to seeing Bielsa being linked with Newcastle.
