Phillips signs new five-year deal

Kalvin Phillips finally signed a new long-term deal with Leeds and committed his future to the club for another five years. 

That’s a massive boost for the club ahead of the next Championship game against Barnsley.

In the official announcement, Leeds stated that they turned down multiple bids over the summer in excess of £20m. That’s more than we’d heard having been bid for him before.

There are unconfirmed rumours that there is a release clause in his contract that would kick in if Leeds don’t get promoted at the end of this season.

That would make sense and we wouldn’t begrudge Phillips a shot at the top-flight if Leeds do fail to win promotion again, as hard as that would be to take.

Leeds fans were absolutely delighted by the news and no wonder – Phillips is the central player in the Bielsa 4-1-4-1 system and we wouldn’t be the same team without him.

This new contract means we don’t have to worry about any rumours springing up in January.
