Phil Hay wowed by Jaidon Anthony ‘trickery’ as ‘good showing’ verdict shared in Leeds United v QPR

Jaidon Anthony impressed with a good showing in the opening stages of his first Leeds United start, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

The on-loan winger made his full debut for the club in their Championship encounter with QPR on Wednesday (4 October).

The Whites won the match 1-0 at Elland Road, with Crysencio Summerville scoring the only goal of the game in the ninth minute.

Anthony is currently on a season-long loan at Elland Road from Bournemouth, with Luis Sinisterra having moved in the other direction.

“Good showing from Anthony so far,” Hay wrote on Twitter just before half-time in the match. “Trickery and got that bit of variation you need to get through a packed defence.”

Top talent

Anthony was perhaps surprised to find himself playing in the English second tier this season, having impressed at times for the Cherries in the top flight last time out.

But the south coast side clearly had their sights set on a move for Leeds winger Sinisterra, in a deal that saw Anthony shipped out to Elland Road.

He has had to be patient for opportunities under Daniel Farke, but a first start finally arrived against QPR, and the 23-year-old didn’t disappoint.

Anthony has to fight for a spot in the starting XI with a long list of players, with the likes of Willy Gnonto, Summerville and Dan James all vying for a place on the wing.

But minutes were always on the cards given the very busy schedule that the Whites must deal with in the Championship.

Loan man Anthony will undoubtedly want to continue starting after being handed his full debut, but he looks set to be a key player for the West Yorkshire club this season regardless.

In other Leeds United news, Farke is “totally convinced” that one “unbelievable” Whites player can improve.
