Phil Hay shares early Leeds team news v Arsenal
Phil Hay has shared early Leeds United team news ahead of the Carabao Cup clash this evening against Arsenal.
The Whites travel to the capital this evening for what seems like their annual trip to The Emirates Stadium in the cup.
Marcelo Bielsa has numerous injury issues with the likes of Patrick Bamford, Junior Firpo and Raphinha set to miss out.
Writing in his pre-match Q&A for The Athletic this morning, Hay shared what he expects to happen at The Emirates with Kalvin Phillips potentially involved.
“In terms of team news, Patrick Bamford, Junior Firpo, Robin Kock and Luke Ayling were all expected to miss this game through injury,” he wrote.
“Kalvin Phillips made the bench on Saturday so might have a good chance of playing. Raphinha’s ankle injury doesn’t sound like a bad one but it would make sense to be cautious with him this evening.
“This game might also present an opportunity for players like Summerville and Forshaw and personally I’d like to see Charlie Cresswell involved again.”
The Yorkshire Pirlo.
With fitness needed, Phillips could come in to captain the side yet again in the Carabao Cup as he has done against Fulham and Crewe.
Bielsa will surely be using this as a chance to bring in some of his fringe players and allowing his first-team players the chance to recover further.
There is no need to risk the likes of Raphinha who is almost certain to be out anyway after his ankle injury on Saturday.
This is a chance for the likes of Adam Forshaw to come in and prove themselves, as well as Tyler Roberts alongside some academy options.
Whether this could backfire and Mikel Arteta names his strongest side, it is unknown, but Leeds don’t have the luxury of many options at this moment in time.
