Phil Hay responds to Leeds fan who asks if Pablo Hernandez will miss rest of season
Pablo Hernandez is “touch and go” for Leeds United ahead of their clash against Cardiff on Sunday but is not expected to miss any other matches, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist was asked on Twitter whether Hernandez, 35, would be a doubt for just the trip to South Wales this weekend or the rest of the season.
Hay had previously written on his personal Twitter account that Hernandez has a “niggle” and wasn’t sure if it would affect Marcelo Bielsa’s first teamsheet since March.
Fortunately, the Spanish playmaker might only miss the Cardiff game and is expected to be fine to play against Fulham next week.
When asked by a fan on whether Hernandez would miss the rest of the season, Hay replied: “No, only Sunday and he might still have a chance of that. Sounded touch and go.”
It would be quite the blow for Leeds if Hernandez was to miss the Cardiff match on Sunday.
Although the Spaniard hasn’t quite hit the heights he reached last season in this campaign, he is still one of the most important players at Elland Road and is irreplaceable in Bielsa’s starting line-up.
Tyler Roberts will more than likely step in to replace Hernandez if he is carrying a knock but Bielsa has been known in the past to field players who aren’t at their maximum fitness level.
Some managers might not choose to play Hernandez this weekend but if someone is going to pick him to play then it’s going to be Bielsa, who will do whatever it takes to name what he feels is his best starting line-up.
And any best possible line-up for Leeds United includes Hernandez.
