Phil Hay predicts Leeds United starting XI v Tottenham after Bielsa team news update
Marcelo Bielsa is expected to play the same starting line-up when Leeds United take on Tottenham on Sunday, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
On Friday, Marcelo Bielsa told the media that Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling won’t be available to play in North London while he also suggested that Junior Firpo and Jamie Shackleton are short of match fitness [LeedsLive].
On Twitter, Hay was asked whether we’re likely to see an unchanged line-up from the one that drew with Leicester before the international break and the reporter replied: “I would think so.”
Leeds’ performance against Leicester was one of their best of the season so seeing the side go out unchanged against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham isn’t too much of a worry.
It means that Illan Meslier is expected to start in goals behind a back-four of Stuart Dallas, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk.
Adam Forshaw, who was the star man in the 1-1 versus the Foxes, is likely to start alongside Kalvin Phillips in the central midfield roles.
In the attack, we saw a fluid system of Raphinha, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Daniel James against Leicester and that could be the same as what happens in the capital on Sunday.
Obviously, we would be way more confident about winning this game – or even getting a point – if Bamford and Ayling were involved.
However, we may have to get used to the fact that they are nowhere near returning just now and could still be weeks away based on Bielsa’s reluctance to play Firpo and Shackleton.
But, as mentioned, this team performed very well against Leicester and Spurs are in really poor form in the Premier League right now.
They’re without a win – and without a goal – in three league matches so they could be there for the taking.
