Phil Hay predicts Leeds starting XI for Premier League clash v Liverpool
Leeds United return to the Premier League on September 12 and they’re set for a huge test as they travel to Anfield to take on champions Liverpool.
Leeds are still yet to make any significant new signings, beyond sealing permanent deals for Illan Meslier and Helder Costa, and bringing Jack Harrison back on loan.
And it looks like Ben White won’t be returning with Brighton playing hardball.
The Atheltic’s Phil Hay thinks that White will be the only change from the strongest starting XI that Bielsa could have put out in the Championship.
This is the line-up that Hay has predicted for the blockbuster tie in the Premier League.
No changes, no surprises
It just leaves the second centre-back spot free and we think that is likely to be Freiburg’s Robin Koch.
Some Leeds fans might be upset that the line-up doesn’t contain more marquee signings and that Patrick Bamford is likely to start up-top.
However, it shouldn’t be a surprise.
We remember when Leeds fans were upset after Marcelo Bielsa came in and said he didn’t want to make many new signings.
The fans said the players who had finished 13th in the Championship in the 17/18 season weren’t good enough and that Bielsa would find that out.
Bielsa knew something they didn’t, though, and turned them into Championship winners.
Can Bielsa squeeze an extra 10% out of them and turn them into mid-table Premier League players?
If anyone can, Bielsa can and we think all the players above have deserved a shot at Liverpool in the Premier League.
We weren’t embarrassed against Arsenal in the FA Cup earlier this year and we’re hopeful that Leeds can put up a good account of themselves at Anfield.
If nothing else we know they’ll work hard and give their all, and we can’t ask for more than that.
