Phil Hay: Patrick Bamford unlikely to play in Leeds United clash v Fulham due to knock
Patrick Bamford is unlikely to play for Leeds United when they take on Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night due to a knock, according to Phil Hay.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning, The Athletic’s Leeds correspondent reported that Bamford, 28, suffered a minor setback in the draw at Newcastle on Friday and is unlikely to be involved at Craven Cottage this week.
Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Luke Ayling and Jack Harrison are understood be ruled out due to injury while Pascal Struijk is suspended.
Hay adds that Adam Forshaw could be involved for the clash against the Championship high-flyers after he played for the Under-23s in their 4-0 win against Liverpool on Sunday.
Hopefully not serious
Marcelo Bielsa is facing an injury nightmare right now and it could not have come at a worse time.
Leeds are still without a win in the Premier League and have some very favourable fixtures on the horizon.
While West Ham is a tough game this weekend, after that, the Whites play Watford, Southampton, Wolves and Norwich.
Going into those games, having as many players unavailable as we do is a worry and if Bamford misses any league games too, that will be just our luck.
It doesn’t make sense to risk Bamford against Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
While we’d love to see Bielsa take the Yorkshire giants on a run in the cup, we can understand that he’s facing major injury issues at the moment and could be forced into play fringe and Under-23s players at Craven Cottage.
Fulham have lost two of their last three Championship games so they’re not in the best of form.
But hopefully we can still win this without Bamford and co.
In other Leeds United news, this youngster could be set for a start against Fulham tonight.
