Phil Hay: Luke Ayling was to return to Leeds United training on Friday
Luke Ayling was to return to Leeds United training on Friday, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
The right-back has been ruled out of action with an injury since September, and he is believed to have told Hay that he’ll be back in action very soon.
Hay, who’s doing a piece on him, shared the details of this conversation, via his personal Twitter handle.
He wrote, “Spoke to Ayling yesterday [Thursday] (piece with him next week). Was hoping to train today.”
Need him back soon
The 30-year-old last played in September’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle and has been out of action since.
Jamie Shackleton has deputised for him and while he has done a fairly decent job, it’s not the same as having Ayling in the side.
The right-back is used to what Marcelo Bielsa wants for him and his performances even saw him become one of the best right-backs in the Premier League last season.
Shackleton, on the other hand, prefers to play in midfield, so it’s obvious that it’s not going to be the same with him playing at full-back.
Ayling seems like a doubt for the Spurs clash this weekend, but hopefully, he’s ready for next week and stays fit all through the festive period.
He is a player that Bielsa truly banks on and one he’ll be starting whenever he’s available.
