The only official word was from Marcelo Bielsa in his press conference on Thursday when he said all the players bar Adam Forshaw were fit and available.
However, it does appear that Cooper has a problem.
Athletic journalist Phil Hay delivered the bad news on Saturday morning, ahead of the opening Premier League game against Liverpool.
Writing in a fan Q&A, Hay said, “My understanding is that he [Cooper] had a very minor calf issue yesterday but it remains to be seen if he’s fit to play.
“I hope he is because he deserves to lead the team out.”
Major blow if Cooper not fit
This is just what Leeds don’t need.
They’ve already lost Ben White back to Brighton and there was speculation about whether Robin Koch would play after only hooking up with his new teammates on Monday.
Bielsa did say Koch was ready to play on Thursday and we think he starts.
The question is, if Cooper is out, who takes his place?
We think it will involve some major tinkering, with Luke Ayling swapping into the centre and Stuart Dallas moving onto the right.
That would see Barry Douglas come in at left-back.
There are other options. Pascal Struijk could come in but we really don’t think he should be starting at centre-back in such an important, high-profile game.
It just highlights the fact that another centre-back is desperately needed as soon as possible, with Dinamo Zagreb youngster Josko Gvardiol being heavily linked.
