Phil Hay delivers big fitness boost for Leeds ahead of PL clash v Wolves
Pablo Hernandez is back in training and has a “good chance” of playing for Leeds United in the game against Wolves on Monday, according to Phil Hay.
Hernandez has been missing since the first game of the season against Liverpool.
He picked up a groin issue in warm-up and has been sidelined since, with Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo alternating starts.
Writing on The Athletic, Hay delivered the good news to Leeds fans on Thursday morning.
That was the extent of the good news, though, with Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper liable to miss the game with groin strains of their own.
Hernandez the ultimate impact player
Hernandez has struggled to maintain his fitness since lockdown.
He only started two of the last nine games of the 19/20 season and has only made one appearance in the Premier League.
Leeds are a much better side with him available, even if he is just used as an impact player off the bench.
That’s what we’re expecting on Monday, with Rodrigo likely to get the nod for the number 10 spot after a standout display v Man City.
Rodrigo scored the equalising goal and could have won the game for Leeds as he started to show why he was valued at £27m.
Hernandez could get a chance to prove himself in the Under-23s game tomorrow. This is Bielsa’s normal route back for players returning from injury.
However, Hernandez is a special case and we wouldn’t be surprised if he missed the game against Reading at the Bearwood Park Training Ground on Friday before making the bench on Monday.
