Phil Hay: Charlie Cresswell has serious chance of starting for Leeds v West Ham
Phil Hay has shared that Charlie Cresswell has a “serious chance” of making his Premier League debut for Leeds United against West Ham.
The Whites are without Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk at the back, as the defensive crisis continues.
Cresswell shined against Fulham on Tuesday evening, and Marcelo Bielsa admitted he would have no problem throwing him in against the Irons.
Writing on the Athletic this morning, Hay shared the major piece of team news ahead of this afternoon.
“Let’s start with the team news because that might be the crux today,” he wrote. “Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch are all injured. Pascal Struijk serves the last game of his suspension.
“Judging by Bielsa’s comments on Thursday, it sounds like there’s a serious chance of Charlie Cresswell starting again.”
Get him in.
There will never be a better opportunity for Cresswell to make his debut, and he simply has to be thrown in at the deep end.
Fulham named a strong senior side in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and the academy skipper was phenomenal in dominating them aerially and physically.
Having said that, he couldn’t wish for a more physical test than Michail Antonio in his potential Premier League debut.
The Jamaican international is one of the best out there at bullying defenders and turning them with ease to create chances – something that will see him likely target Cresswell.
Cresswell must be ready for that, and we back him to relish this challenge and tackle it all guns blazing – bring it on.
