Phil Hay blown away by ‘excellent’ Ethan Ampadu moment in Leeds United win v QPR
Ethan Ampadu was “excellent” in anticipating the ball during the match between Leeds United and QPR, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
The midfielder played the entire 90 minutes as the Whites defeated the London outfit 1-0 at Elland Road on Wednesday (4 October).
Ampadu has now made 12 appearances for the West Yorkshire club since his summer transfer from Premier League club Chelsea.

“Some of Ampadu’s anticipation when Leeds play their way into trouble is excellent,” Hay wrote on Twitter. “Rectifies a mistake by Gray, drives forward and wins a free-kick 30 yards out. 1-0 on 61 mins.”
Superstar
Ampadu has enjoyed a superb season so far, with the Wales international shining in midfield alongside youngster Archie Gray.
The latter has also been fantastic for the Whites, but it can be argued that he wouldn’t have enjoyed his success this season without the presence of the former.
Ampadu has immediately hit the ground running at Elland Road following his summer switch from Chelsea, with Leeds fans fully aware of just how talented he is.
The summer arrivals of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara have helped revamp the club’s midfield following the exits of the likes of Marc Roca, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Adam Forshaw, but it seems that Ampadu is the one that will get the most playing time this season.
He has led by example, and was once again impressive as Leeds picked up a hugely important three points against QPR, with a win needed after their loss against Southampton.
In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke is “totally convinced” that one “unbelievable” Whites player can improve as the season goes on.
