Phil Hay blasts Leeds United on Twitter amid ‘total capitulation’ v Crystal Palace

Phil Hay has slammed Leeds United for their “total capitulation” in their 5-1 loss against Crystal Palace on Sunday (9 April).

The humiliating defeat leaves the Whites just two points off the Premier League relegation zone in 16th place.

Boos rang around Elland Road at the full-time whistle, with the Yorkshire outfit taking a huge step back in their fight for safety.

“A total capitulation,” Hay wrote on Twitter with the scoreline at 4-1. “Palace counter after a poor pass from Harrison, Edouard drills in low after Olise carries it forward and slips him in. This could get messier yet. 70th minute.”

And it certainly did get messier Eagles then added another, with Hay Tweeting: “Well… [expletive]. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a team vanish like this. Physically disappeared since half-time.

“Ayew again, Hughes’s attempt at a shot trundles through to him, nobody marking Ayew, he just leathers it in because he might as well.

“You’d probably take a point at this stage.”

Disastrous afternoon

Leeds completely capitulated in the meeting with Palace, with the visitors slicing through the home defence with ease in almost every attack.

The Whites had been going strong under Gracia, but this will be seen as a major setback in the fight for Premier League safety.

It is one worry to lose against another relegation rival, but another to concede so many goals against them, particularly at home.

Gracia has a huge task ahead in motivating his players for their upcoming match against Liverpool on Monday (17 April), with the gap from now until then set to be a painful one for the players as they look to make amends for the Palace disaster.

The dramatic loss against the Eagles will have confused supporters from both clubs, with Palace struggling for goals before they made the trip to Elland Road.

More shock comes from the fact that the hosts went 1-0 up early on in the game through Patrick Bamford.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are reportedly plotting a double transfer raid to sign Weston McKennie permanently, as well as Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres.
