Jamie Shackleton is a doubt for today’s Premier League clash between Leeds United and Crystal Palace, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist was talking on a pre-match Q&A and was asked about Shackleton’s fitness – among others – with rumours flying around on a fan forum.
The fan asked, “Rumours of Pablo, Shackleton, Raphinha & Ayling being injured. Say it ain’t so Phil?!”
Hay replied saying, “Waiting to hear at the moment. There were suggestions of a doubt about Shackleton last night.
“Haven’t heard any more on Hernandez, and Bielsa was still in two minds about Raphinha on Thursday. He doesn’t tend to risk players, however small the doubt about them.”
Struijk in if Shackleton out
Leeds are already suffering with the absence of Kalvin Phillips (injury), Diego Llorente (injury) and Rodrigo (Covid-19) for the game today.
Raphinha is facing a late fitness test and now it looks like Shackleton is set for the same.
If Shackleton is ruled it surely means the return of Pascal Struijk to the holding midfield role.
Struijk lost his place in the side after being hooked after 20 minutes in the 3-0 win against Aston Villa. Shackleton replaced him in the 4-1 defeat against Leicester.
Struijk for Shackleton is a change that we’d like to see anyway today as it would free up Mateusz Klich to his more attacking role.
Stuart Dallas, Robin Koch, Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling should line up in defence, although there were some rumours about a knock to the right-back as well.
With Rodrigo out, Pablo Hernandez is likely to start again in the number 10 role if fit.
Given these issues, the international break is coming at the right time for Leeds.
