Phil Dawkes reacts as Rodrigo scores for Leeds United v Wolves at Half time
Rodrigo scored for Leeds United after they fell behind from a goal from Daniel Podence at Elland Road in the Premier League clash on Saturday (6 August).
The home side really looked sharp, with Brendan Aaronson impressing on his Premier League debut. The Spaniard then restored parity in the first half to make it 1-1.
Podence gave the lead within six minutes, almost against the run of play, leaving the vociferous crowd absolutely stunned. Rodrigo, who looked brilliant in the pre-season, has made a strong impact in the opening game for the Whites.
BBC Sport journalist, Phil Dawkes, sharing his reaction to the second goal, described Rodrigo as “ruthless”.
“The roof has just been blown off Elland Road,” said Dawkes, as shared by the BBC Sport Website.
“The home side had been building up a head of steam since falling behind, without properly testing Jose Sa. Well now they have, and they’ve beaten the Wolves keeper too.

“The goal is a testament to the doggedness of Brendan Aaronson and Jack Harrison, who refuse to let Wolves clear, and the accuracy of Rodrigo’s low shot.
“The Spaniard hasn’t often lived up to the billing of a near £30m forward, but that was pretty ruthless. It follows on from a hat-trick he scored here in a friendly against Cagliari last weekend.”
Fired up
After conceding the opening goal, Leeds have looked sharp and fired up.
This is now Jesse Marsch’s team as he has made six new signings this summer.
Aaronson was lively throughout the first-half, but it was the Spaniard Rodrigo who provided the equaliser.
While Jose Sa can be blamed for failing to parry the ball away from the near post, Rodrigo and Leeds won’t mind.
The Whites have played some excellent football in the first half and they deserved the goal.
To be fair, the home side has looked better as the game progressed, and let’s hope we can finish it off with all three points.
What has been really pleasing is the transition in midfield which has been pleasing to the eyes, with sharp movements and passing.
Leeds will have to be careful at the back, though apart from the opening goal, they have looked composed and solid.
