'Perfect', 'Amazing' – These Leeds fans thrilled by EFL news ahead of clash v Barnsley
When the EFL announces something, there’s a very good chance you’ll find Leeds United fans moaning about it.
However, for possibly the most important game of the season, the EFL has delivered some fantastic news to Leeds fans – and they’re delighted.
Leeds could secure promotion at Elland Road against Barnsley if Brentford slip-up when they play Preston on Wednesday.
And the EFL has announced that the referee for the game will be Jarred Gillett, who’s come over from the Australian A-League.
This will be just his second match in charge of a Leeds match and we won that 1-0 against Reading.
The overwhelming verdict from Leeds fans is that he’s one of the best referees in the Championship and plenty are absolutely delighted with this news.

Gillett, who won the Australian Referee of the Year award four times, could well be a Premier League referee before the end of the season after impressing PGMOL bosses, according to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail.
And he’s already been used as a VAR official.
We think he’s absolutely the right referee for a hugely important game.
Here are the best reactions to the news of Gillett’s appointment for Thursday…
In his one and only Leeds game, he let the game flow and gave a very strong performance. There’s no surprise that he was named the A- League’s referee of the year on 5 occasions, most recently in 2017/18, and stands as the most successful ref in A- League history. #lufc

He was decent when we had him earlier this season, probably the best weve had

Yeah agree with that. Saw the video of him with a ‘live mic’ in his last game in Australia and clear to see he was well respected there

He’s the hot one that was quite good I seem to remember?

Did a good job at Elland Road earlier in the year

Chuffed with that. Hasn’t been here long but I honestly think he’s one of the best referees in the EFL.

Quality referee. About time we had him again. Common sense ref who in my opinion should be top of the premier league’s Ref list
— Paul Williams (@paulwilliams105) July 13, 2020
He was excellent for us if I remember
— Benny 💙💛 (@BennyTaylsLUFC) July 12, 2020
I actually remember him being a good ref
— Hendo (@HendoLJ) July 12, 2020
Have seen him ref in Australia and I like him .He reffed well last time he had us and played a very good advantage not wanting to impose himself on proceedings .Will suit our style .

That’s the perfect ref. Saw his last game in the aussie league and he’s amazing. Lets the game flow and his decisions are perfect.
