Paul Robinson rubs his eyes in disbelief at Leeds vs Man City moment – ‘I can’t believe it’
Paul Robinson could scarcely believe Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s wastefulness in the early stages of Leeds United’s clash with Manchester City.
Daniel Farke’s side are hoping to boost their already sound position in the relegation fight, while at the same time hurting Pep Guardiola’s title hopes.
The first-half performance certainly looked like the Peacocks could cause an upset, with quite a few chances landing their way, as they frustrated the away side until Antoine Semenyo’s breakthrough right on the verge of half-time.
Calvert-Lewin, who has been a key man across the season, found himself on the end of plenty of those opportunities.
However, the Englishman produced a moment that left the former Leeds shot-stopper surprised at what he had just seen.

What happened with Dominic Calvert-Lewin vs Manchester City?
In the opening minutes of the game, Leeds had a golden chance to open the scoring after Brendan Aaronson sent in a sumptuous cross into the box.
It was a delivery that nearly every striker in world football would love to be on the end of, but Leeds’ number nine made a complete mess of the situation.
Calvert-Lewin was able to reach the ball, but in an attempt unlike what has been seen from the 28-year-old for the Whites, he stuck the chance wide of the goal.
With the form that Calvert-Lewin has been in this season, it was expected for him to score, leaving Robinson in disbelief at what he saw.
Robinson, speaking via BBC Sport said: “I can’t believe he’s missed it; I really can’t believe he’s missed that.
“You think all day long that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is going to score, but he pokes it wide. That’s a chance, but I do think VAR would have checked the foul in the build-up.”
While the forward will rue that missed chance, he could also have been his own enemy if he had scored it.
Why Calvert-Lewin’s missed chance could have been ruled out anyway
Even if the goal was scored, referee Peter Bankes may have been asked to review the goal due to a foul committed by Calvert-Lewin.
As he raced through on goal, the Leeds man had seemed to push Marc Guehi to the ground, leaving plenty of space for him to run into.
While the contact was certainly soft, there could have been enough in it for the goal to be overturned.
This time around it did not end up affecting the match, but the Englishman must be more careful in the future.
After the first-half performance, Leeds will certainly feel like they can get a result against Man City.
