Paul Robinson reacts to Dan James red card as Leeds United suffer 3-0 loss v Chelsea
Paul Robinson has slammed Leeds United forward Daniel James for his terrible challenge in the first half that saw him pick up a red card against Chelsea.
The Whites lost 3-0 against the Blues at Elland Road on Wednesday (11 May), and they are in grave danger to getting relegated.
At 1-0, a moment of madness from James made life difficult for the club. He produced a wild and dangerous challenge forward as he launched himself into Mateo Kovacic.
“It’s the last thing Leeds needed, two games in a row,” said Robinson, as relayed by the BBC Sport Website.
“Dan James had no reason to make such a strong challenge in that area of the pitch. It’s a terrible looking challenge. There’s no need to make that tackle.
“You have to keep your emotions in check. It’s indefensible.”
Poor challenge
It was a correct decision to send James off.
Leeds once again made a poor start as they conceded an early goal.
The 24-year-old was shown a straight red card in the 24th minute, and it happened right infront of the referee, who had no doubts about giving James the marching order.
Against both the London teams, Leeds needed a strong defensive performance, and in both cases, they ended up being a man down.
That is simply not accetable.
The Whites are already plaugued by a long injury list, and losing two important players – Luke Ayling and now James – through silly red cards beggars belief.
The club is in complete mess at the moment. While Everton showed a great fighting spirit to earn all three points against Chelsea, the Whites just fell apart. The challenge ended within the first few minutes itself.
The Whites need two wins in their remaining games, and hope other results go in their favour as they battle to save themselves from getting relegated.
