Paul Robinson: Bielsa adding to pressure on Costa & Harrison at Leeds
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has said that Marcelo Bielsa is adding to the pressure on wingers Helder Costa and Jack Harrison.
Both players have been subbed off and dropped in recent weeks after lacklustre displays.
Harrison was taken off at half-time against Arsenal and Southampton and was dropped to the bench for the Villa game.
Helder Costa was dropped after the defeat to West Ham back in December but came on at half-time for Harrison in the Arsenal and Southampton games.
He has started the last two games but was hauled off at half-time in the game against West Ham last week. Harrison came on in the second half.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Neither have really grabbed their chance and I think it’s 50/50 as to who gets the nod on Saturday.
“Neither have played particularly well but I don’t think Marcelo Bielsa is helping by giving them 45 minutes or an hour then taking them off and dropping them for the next game.
“That rotation doesn’t help a player and that will be hanging over their heads.
“I think either one of them could play against Chelsea, I think you could flip a coin. Both are playing pretty badly but they’re not getting any help from the manager.
“Both of them know that if they play badly they’re going to get subbed off and then miss the next game. It’s not easy to play well under that sort of pressure.”
Leeds do have one winger who is putting in consistently good displays – summer signing Rahpinha.
He’s got the ring-wing spot nailed down and is showing Costa and Harrison the level that they should be hitting in the Premier League.
For what it’s worth, we think Harrison will get the nod on Saturday, and of the two wingers we think he’s the one with the most potential and the brighter future at the club.
