Paul Merson stunned by Leeds United footage v Swansea live on Sky Sports

Leeds United got off to the perfect start against Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Farke‘s side were looking to regain their place at the summit of the Championship after Sheffield United beat Coventry 3-1 on Friday (28 March).

The race for promotion is set to go down to the wire, and the Whites need to be almost perfect in the last eight matches, getting off to the dream start at Elland Road.

Leeds United take early lead against Swansea

Brenden Aaronson has been criticised for a lack of goal involvement recently, but he was there to put the ball in the net after a scramble in the Swans’ box.

The strike put the hosts in a great position to secure victory just one minute into the contest, in a brilliant start for Farke’s side.

Paul Merson was left stunned by the early goal as the replays emerged, speaking on Sky Sports News (29 March, 15:01), he said: “It’s a brilliant start from Leeds, takes the pressure off, 1-0, but unbelievable defending, it’s all over, it’s ping-pong.”

Elland Road needs to be a fortress for Leeds

Leeds’ home form has been the reason for their remarkable season so far, as they have only dropped points in four matches at Elland Road.

The Whites have secured 48 points from a possible 57 from their home matches, compared to just 32 on the road from a potential 57.

Leeds’ form at home and away.

If they can beat Swansea, they will have just three matches at home before the season concludes, and they will need to win them all, especially given their recent struggles away.

Given that their promotion rivals, Sheffield United and Burnley, face off towards the end of the campaign, Farke’s side can afford to drop points in one of their matches, but they need to ensure it is not at home, given how poor their away form has been.

They will face Preston, Stoke and Bristol City in their final three home games, all winnable games for a side with Premier League aspirations.

If they fail to win all three, it could put them in danger of missing out on an automatic promotion spot for another season and having to risk a playoff berth, which historically has not gone well for them.
