Paul Merson blasts 'bad' Brenden Aaronson live on Sky Sports after what he saw in Leeds United win v Bournemouth

Paul Merson slammed Brenden Aaronson live on Sky Sports News on Saturday after the American squandered a chance for Leeds United in their 4-3 win over Bournemouth.

Leeds came from 3-1 down at Elland Road to earn a massive three points against the Cherries – but they could have gone 2-0 ahead in the opening stages when Aaronson, 22, wasted a glorious chance to get on the scoresheet.

Bournemouth then went up the other end of the pitch and scored, leading to Merson criticising Aaronson for his ball control.

“It’s 1-1 and it should have been 2-0 [to Leeds],” said Merson on Sky Sports News on Saturday (5 November, 03:02pm).

“Aaronson went through and he had a bad touch and it went to the goalkeeper. They go up the other end, it’s the first bit of passage of play down there.”

Should’ve scored

Yes, Aaronson should have scored. Or, at the very least, gave the Bournemouth goalkeeper something to do.

However, his touch let him down but more often than not, Aaronson’s ball control is impeccable and given we ended up winning the game, we’re sure that all Leeds fans can forgive him here.

Aaronson has been a brilliant singing by Jesse Marsch.

He was terrific for Red Bull Salzburg last season both domestically and in the Champions League, where he put in a man-of-the-match-worthy shift against Bayern Munich in the knock-out rounds.

It’s not really a surprise to see him doing so well for Marsch here in the Premier League and given the fact he’s not long turned 22, he should get better and better.

Leeds’ season is finally on the up with back-to-back wins against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Let’s finish off this pre-World Cup fixture list with a win over Wolves in the EFL Cup and a respectable scoreline next wee against Tottenham before a month-long break.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are set to jet out to Spain with a major decision being made behind the scenes at Elland Road.
