Paul Merson almost hurts himself reacting to incident in Leeds United draw vs Bournemouth

Paul Merson couldn’t believe his eyes in Leeds United’s win against Bournemouth.

Leeds secured a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, albeit dropping two points as a result of a very late equaliser.

It was Sean Longstaff who stole the headlines for Leeds with a goal and an assist, though it was a separate incident in the game that left Merson in shock.

So much so that it appears the Sky Sports presenter almost injured himself when reacting to the footage he was shown from Elland Road.

Antoine Semenyo sparks Leeds finger-pointing

Leeds had several chances to take the lead, most of which fell to the feet or head of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but failed to take them.

A moment of stupidity from Anton Stach then saw the Cherries award a free-kick on the edge of the box, with Antoine Semenyo firing the ball into the back of the net, under the wall.

The fact that the ball was allowed to go under led to questions among the Leeds backline, but also led to Paul Merson trying his own acrobatics when reacting to the goal on Sky Sports.

When the camera cut back to the studio, Simon Thomas said: “Merse, are you alright? His foot was literally up in the air a moment or two ago. Are you okay? Do you need a walk around the studio?

To which Merson replied: “I just can’t get over that goal.”

Whether he was stunned by the finish or in disbelief at the poor set-up by the Whites remains to be seen.

Leeds need to cut out silly defensive errors

Wolves’ opening goal in Leeds win at Molineux last weekend arrived as a result of Longstaff losing his man in the middle of the park, with the Cherries’ opening goal arriving as a result of a silly foul by Stach.

Against Wolves, it meant nothing in the end, but Leeds need to find a way to eradicate these small defensive errors from their game.

In the Championship, you can get away with it, but in the Premier League, you will be punished, as Leeds have already found out on several occasions.
