Patrick Bamford will lose sleep as BT Sport share ‘unbelievable’ footage from Leeds United 1-1 draw v Leicester City

Patrick Bamford will lose sleep after his “unbelievable” miss in the dying moments of Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Tuesday night, according to Ally McCoist and Ian Darke.

Elland Road was about to erupt when Bamford, 29, found himself unmarked at the back post after a late corner kick.

However, despite being just inches away from the goal, the striker fluffed his lines and the ball went out for a goal kick.

McCoist was shocked by Bamford’s miss while Darke suggested it’ll take some time for the one-time England international to get over it.

Speaking on BT Sport 1 on Tuesday night (25 April, 09:48pm) after Bamford’s miss, McCoist said: “I just cannot believe Leeds United have not scored in that passage of play. It’s unbelievable.

“Two brilliant deliveries in, it was Roca with a header to the back post and Bamford miskicks it, doesn’t he? He’s got to score.

“He takes up a good position at the back post. Oh dear, what a chance.”

BT Sport commentator Darke then said: “Extraordinary. Two huge chances for Leeds, the Roca header and then a chance that Bamford would usually score in his sleep. But he might not sleep tonight.”

Oh. My. Word.

It doesn’t matter that he’s not fully fit.

It doesn’t matter that he’s had injuries galore.

It doesn’t matter that he’s not been in great form in front of goal.

Bamford is a professional footballer and literally every single Premier League player should be expected to score the chance that he missed at the end of that 1-1 draw.

Not having a goalscoring striker has cost Leeds massively over the years. Even under Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship, Bamford struggled to hit a barn door with a banjo.

And that miss could cost Leeds their Premier League status come the end of the season.

Two points gone in a flash because the Whites haven’t bothered to sort out what has been a problem position for them for years.

We feel for Bamford in a way because he’ll be embarrassed by that miss and Darke’s right, he could lose sleep over it.

Let’s hope that he recovers and is able to score next time out but we won’t be betting on it.

In other Leeds United news, McCoist lost his mind over a “ridiculous” incident against Leicester.
