Pascal Struijk starts for Leeds United Under-23s v Liverpool
Leeds United have confirmed that Pascal Struijk starts for the Under-23s side as they play Liverpool in Premier League 2 on Sunday.
Struijk, 22, is suspended from first-team action due to a red card he received playing the Liverpool senior team last week.
Interestingly, Adam Forshaw is on Mark Jackson’s bench for the Under-23s showdown, which kicks off at Elland Road at 2pm.
No more injuries, please
Leeds need Struijk to be able to play once he is available again.
Marcelo Bielsa regularly allows his senior players to star in the Under-23s in order to keep them match fit and to get to grips with his system.
However, it has bitten Bielsa on the backside before with injuries being suffered in these types of games.
Struijk is the least injury-prone of Leeds’ senior centre-backs but he’s also the least experienced.
It’s still important that he stays fit and ready to return to action.
With Forshaw, it’s good to see he’s back in contention to play.
He might get to play in the second half and get a good 45 minutes under his belt, or potentially less as there’s no need to take any risks with the midfielder.
It’s been great to have Forshaw back this season after almost two years on the sidelines with injury issues.
But let’s hope there are no more setbacks for the former Middlesbrough midfielder, who adds much-needed depth to Bielsa’s options.
In other Leeds United news, Martin Keown mocked this Leeds senior player for what happened in the draw against Newcastle.
