Pascal Struijk slammed for what he did in Leeds United win v Luton Town, ‘Poor’

Gary Taphouse criticised Pascal Struijk after the defender tried to clear the ball from his box in the first half of the Leeds United Championship game against Luton Town on Wednesday.

Struijk picked up the ball at around the 35th minute and tried to clear his lines but instead fluffed his clearance, which then ended up at the feet of a Hatters attacker.

His mistake didn’t lead to Rob Edwards’ men getting on level terms with the Whites but that didn’t stop lead commentator Taphouse from sharing his thoughts on what the Dutchman did while live on Sky Sports Plus (27 November).

“That’s a poor ball from Struijk, he could have easily been punished there,” he said.

Pascal Struijk one of Leeds United’s best players v Luton Town

While the centre-back may have made one of the only errors for Leeds all evening in their 3-0 win against the Hatters, that doesn’t mean he had a bad game overall.

In fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth as he seemed to be one of, if not the best players on the West Yorkshire outfit’s team.

His acrobatic goal-line clearance earlier in the first half is just one of the examples of how strong of a performance he put in, and the fact he assisted Joel Piroe for the Whites’ second goal after Joe Rothwell’s near-perfect corner outlines how vital he is to Daniel Farke’s set-up.

Alongside Joe Rodon this season, the duo have formed a more than solid centre-back partnership and are probably two of the best in the league.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see where Leeds finish their season, but if they continue on this run of form, it’s hard to see how they wouldn’t gain promotion.
