‘Overrated’, ‘Bang average’, ‘Awful’ – Many int’l fans destroy Leeds player display on Sunday

England fans have taken to Twitter to blast Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips for his performance in 2-1 win over Belgium on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate’s side went top of their UEFA Nations League group after coming from behind to beat the number one ranked side in world football at Wembley.

Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half before Marcus Rashford, who also scored a penalty, levelled the scores.

Mason Mount then netted what turned out to be the winner for England in the 64th minute, two minutes before Leeds ace Phillips, 24, came off the bench to replace Jordan Henderson.

According to stats by WyScout, Phillips completed all but one of the 12 passes he attempted against Belgium. Of those passes, four of them went forward.

Phillips also made two recoveries and won both of the aerial duels he challenged for during his time on the pitch to help England see out a massive win in their bid to finish top of their Nations League group.

There’s no denying that Phillips played a vital role in the victory over Belgium, but that hasn’t stopped some England fans from blasting the Leeds ace for his performance.

One dubbed Phillips as “overrated” while another claimed that the 24-year-old is not the answer to England’s central midfield issue.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Let’s face it, every England fan has their own agenda because they show massive bias towards their own club.

Tottenham fans will prefer Eric Dier in the holding midfield role while West Ham fans will prefer Declan Rice.

Leeds fans will always prefer Phillips too. It’s just how international football is.

But those saying that Phillips is “overrated” or “awful” are just plain wrong because, as the stats show, the 24-year-old barely put a foot wrong when he came off the bench and his calm and composed showing in the midfield really helped England get over the line and secure that win.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are expected to sign this one player before the 5pm transfer deadline on Friday.
