‘Outstanding’ – Many Leeds fans blown away by ‘fired up’ player in first half v Bristol City

Leeds United got off to just the start they wanted at Elland Road this afternoon, taking the lead through a Luke Ayling goal in the 16th minute.

Fans were absolutely delighted with his goal and his overall display, and loved the fact that he went to celebrate massively in front of the away fans.

There’s history there – Ayling is a former Bristol City player.

As one Bristol City fan said, it was his “revenge” and he added he “should never have been sold”.

It was absolutely no more than Leeds deserved after a blistering start and a first half where they completely dominated the opposition.

We hoped that the 1-1 draw at Brentford signified the side turning a corner after some pretty dismal form and it certainly seemed to be the case today in some pretty awful conditions.

Helder Costa looked really bright but is still lacking that killer ball, although he had a decent shot saved on the 30-minute mark.

Patrick Bamford looked sharp as well and had a goal ruled out for offside, as well as putting a shot wide from the edge of the area.

Bristol City have been chasing shadows the whole game but while it’s 1-0 there will be plenty of nerves at Elland Road.

It would have been good to have got the second, which is what the performance has deserved, but you couldn’t ask for much more than we’ve got so far.

Ayling deservedly got the most of the plaudits from delighted fans…
