We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Helder Costa scored two goals in the 4-3 win against Fulham and Robinson thinks it was the best he’s seen him in a Leeds shirt.
Robinson said Costa was “outstanding” and that the addition of Rodrigo to the squad has had a positive effect on him, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford.
Costa only scored four goals in 43 games last season but already looks more at home in the Premier League.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson was effusive about all three Leeds’ attackers.
“I thought Helder Costa was outstanding. He was brilliant. He took his goal outstandingly well,” Robinson said.
“Him and Jack Harrison have both had a really good start to the season. To be fair, I’ve been critical of Patrick Bamford but he’s got a couple of goals already and started the season really well.
“Maybe having Rodrigo there is making him realise he has to up his game.
“Pablo Hernandez got a groin strain and that’s why Rodrigo came in against Fulham. I think Harrison and Costa know they’re not guaranteed to start if they’re not bringing it.
“Costa was absolutely outstanding against Fulham, one of the best performances I’ve seen from him in a Leeds shirt.
“He attacked players, took his shots, took his chances, he was man-of-the-match for me.”
Leeds made Costa’s deal permanent this summer for a fee of £16m and he’s already started paying that back.
He came in for criticism last season from fans and was desperately inconsistent. However, if he can keep at the level he displayed against Fulham he’s going to be a mainstay in the Premier League.
