‘Outstanding’, ‘Best player by far’ – Many Leeds fans rave about one man despite loss v Foxes
Leeds United fans were thoroughly disappointed by the team’s performance on Monday night as they lost 4-1 to Leicester City at Elland Road.
However, one major positive that a lot of fans have been talking about is Helder Costa, who impressed supporters yet again with a bright performance.
It was a dismal display by Leeds and arguably the worst Premier League performance since returning to the top-flight.
But at least fans had something to smile about on Twitter after the game.
Costa was in good form throughout the 90 minutes.
Stats by WyScout show that the former Wolves winger completed 86 per cent of his passes, 83 per cent of the six dribbles he attempted and even chipped in defensively by making five recoveries and two interceptions.
Other than the interceptions, all of those numbers were an improvement on Costa’s average per 90 minutes of football this season.
While Costa showed even better form than he has done in what has already been an impressive season by him, Leicester were simply the better team on the night and Leeds did have several other players who failed to be at their best.
Leeds fans have made a point of that on Twitter, with one saying that the Portuguese attacker was the Whites’ “best player by far”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
It’s crazy to think that Costa was one of the most criticised players at Elland Road last season as the Whites won promotion to the Premier League.
But, when you think about it, Jack Harrison was also the same in his debut season at Leeds and last term was one of the best.
It just shows that Marcelo Bielsa really improves players the longer he gets to manage them.
Imagine how good Ben White would’ve been this season if he stays in West Yorkshire.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa doesn’t want this 27-year-old at training.
