'Outstanding' - BBC pundit has no problem with 'fantastic' Leeds ace starting v Huddersfield

BBC pundit Jon Newsome has admitted he has no worries over Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier making his home debut against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Fellow pundit Matt Glennon claimed that he would have preferred Kiko Casilla in between the sticks, with his indecisiveness enough to favour the Terriers more.

Meslier kept a clean-sheet in his Championship debut against Hull, and the two pundits admitted that his introduction could benefit Leeds.

Newsome admitted that Meslier has been superb when called upon this season, and claimed there will be no problems at Elland Road.

“I don’t have an issue with him at all,” he said on West Yorkshire Sport Daily.

“I thought the way he approached the game at Arsenal, I thought was outstanding for a 19-year-old kid, I thought his handling was great last Saturday like I said, the only question mark was his distribution.

“I thought his distribution was a little bit off, but on the flip side, down at Arsenal, his distribution was absolutely fantastic. He might have just got a little bit jittery and he’s overhit a couple and everyone makes a big issue of it, but he came, he’s commanding, his handling was good.

“I don’t see a problem with him.”

The game at Hull was a straight forward debut for Meslier, and he has been tipped for a much tougher afternoon against our West Yorkshire rivals.

Marcelo Bielsa expects his keeper to be more of an outlet on the ball than the usual stopper, and it could be more important what the Frenchman will do off the ball on Saturday especially.

Playing at a packed out Elland Road will be one of the best feelings in football, and Meslier will certainly be relishing the opportunity ahead of him.

In other Leeds United news, this pundit claims that nervous-looking Whites ace will need protecting against the Terriers
