‘Oh no… points deduction and fine incoming’ – Some fans react as big Leeds story emerges

Leeds United made the headlines on Wednesday but not for the right reason.

After selling over 15,000 crowdies – cardboard cutouts of fans – for the game against Fulham at Elland Road on Saturday, an image of Osama Bin Laden was quickly spotted among the supporters.

It’s amazing that it managed to slip through and it’s even more amazing that an employee actually put it on the front row of seats.

The story made the national papers, with both The Mirror and The Daily Mail covering it, and the BBC picked it up on Wednesday evening.

The response from the Leeds fans was threefold.

The first group of fans couldn’t believe it had happened to Leeds.

Others thought it was funny.

Then there were some supporters who thought that Leeds could possibly get sanctions against them from the EFL.

One said, “Whoever decided to alert the world… better hope we don’t get sanctioned by the league.”

Another said the same thing, adding, “Oh no, it’s hit the BBC now.”

Sanctions seem very, very unlikely to us.

And one Leeds fans made a brilliant joke on the back of it, which we think wins the internet for Wednesday.

Leeds haven’t been the only club to have been hit by pranksters and they won’t be the last.

An image of Harold Shipman turned up in a rugby league stadium in Australia.

It’s slightly worrying that images like this can get through the process but Leeds have acted quickly, removed it and promised checks are now in place.

That should be the last of it.
