Noel Whelan stunned by what he saw in Leeds United defeat v Crystal Palace

Noel Whelan couldn’t contain his excitement on social media after Brenden Aaronson’s run helped give Leeds the lead against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Whites took the lead after summer signing Aaronson danced through the Palace defence and saw his shot come back off the post, before Pascal Struijk tucked home the rebound.

Reacting immediately on his personal Twitter account, ex-Leeds man Whelan was full of praise for the move and wanted everyone to know it.

“Get Innnnnnnn,” he said. “What a run and finish and start for [Leeds United]. Wow.”

The good start didn’t last though as goals from Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze either side of half-time meant that Jesse Marsch’s side left south London with nothing to show for their performance.

Despite the result that came afterwards, there were some positive moments in this game and none moreso than Aaronson’s stunning run.

The USA international dazzled as he went past three defenders in the penalty area before letting rip with a strike, and was so unlucky it didn’t nestle in the bottom corner.

But it was an encouraging sign that he is beginning to find his rhythm in the Premier League once again, with his initial good start to the campaign halted due to the month-long break that Leeds had forced upon them.

If they can get Aaronson flying again it will certainly go a way towards helping their recent struggles in front of goal, and with no wins in five they desperately need any help they can get.

At least there was one positive from this result, and Whelan was delighted when it happened. But we now need to get more of that from Aaronson so we can start climbing up the table.
