Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder has said that Newcastle are not taking any further action against either Leeds United or Rodrigo after controversy in the game last night.

Leeds won 2-1 with goals from Raphinha and Jack Harrison but had to weather a storm in the second half of the game.

There was an incident late on that saw both Rodrigo and Fabian Schar booked and it threatened to overshadow the win after the Leeds attacker was accused of spitting.

However, after the game, BBC journalist Alastair Magowan said that “Schar didn’t think Rodrigo spat at him during their altercation.”

Both managers were asked about it after the game, with Marcelo Bielsa saying he didn’t know anything about it.

And the incident seems to have been officially put to bed after the tweet from Ryder, a journalist with very good links at Newcastle.

A lot of fuss about nothing

It didn’t look to us like Rodrigo had spat at Schar but this understandably caused a bit of a furore last night with the COVID pandemic ongoing.

We’ve watched the incident back many times and can’t see where the accusations came from.

Both players were booked after the spat, with Rodrigo appearing to go down after slight contact from the Newcastle player.

Raphinha ran a long way to get involved but thankfully it didn’t boil over.

Schar had been at it all night, putting in two crunching tackles on Raphinha early on in the game.

And it seems that it was something Rodrigo said to him that made him so angry.

Thankfully, we can now just enjoy the three points and look forward to a very tough game against Leicester at the weekend.
