Neil Redfearn blasts Aaronson after shock moment in Leeds v Middlesbrough

Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has blasted Brenden Aaronson in the 3-1 win against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

The Whites were leading one-nil when a chance fell to the American but his effort went wildly over the crossbar as he rushed to get a shot away.

The attacking midfielder has struggled to impress with his performances since the opening few weeks of the campaign and it was no different on this occasion despite a late tap-in goal.

The former Barnsley man was not impressed with the finishing skills of the 24-year-old in the Boro game [10 December, BBC Radio Leeds, 20:54], saying: “Brenden Aaronson has been good but his finishing has been poor.

“He didn’t have his whereabouts about him with that chance before half-time.”

Aaronson continues to frustrate at Leeds United

The American has struggled to make an impact at Elland Road recently, failing to score or assist in his last six Championship appearances before the Boro clash.

That has led to speculation that the Whites may look for another option when the transfer window opens in January.

His performance against Middlesbrough was industrious, he was constantly trying to have an impact on the contest.

However, he frustrated Daniel Farke with a lack of composure when he got into a good position as shown by the chance he missed on the verge of half-time and his goal at the death came from a position he could not miss from.

He is currently the Whites only option in the attacking midfield slot and that is the only reason that he is starting right now because his form has been dreadful in recent weeks.

Leeds need their number ten to contribute much more if they are to continue their promotion push.
