MOT View: Sky Sports pundit spot on with withering verdict on one Leeds player v Wigan
No one knows the problems Leeds United are having this season more than the fans.
Every week we have to watch our side dominating, playing brilliant football and failing to convert chances.
Patrick Bamford might have scored two against Millwall and put his gloves over his ears as a pointed reposte to fans’ criticism, but he was back at what he seems to have done best this season today – missing chances.
He wasn’t the only player. Jack Harrison missed a crazy easy chance that could have changed the outcome of the game, but Bamford is our striker – our only striker in the 11 or on the bench today – and he missed a host of chances that a more clinical forward would have gobbled up.
Talking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday live coverage (Saturday, 3pm), Michael Brown pointed the finger at Bamford.
“They’re creating opportunities but not putting them away,” Brown said.
“Bamford’s had three opportunities now, the latest an easy header. All he had to do was head it on target and it would have been a goal.”
Leeds need goals and they brought a striker in precisely for these occasions.
Okay, we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes at Thorp Arch, but we do know that Augustin was put in front of the media on Thursday for his first press conference and he said that he was physically fit.
You don’t need to know the full details of Bielsa’s system to go on with five or ten minutes left and score a goal.
And how Leeds needed a goal today.
Bamford might be missing the chances but Marcelo Bielsa is proving very stubborn. Augustin wasn’t on the bench but our other new signing Ian Poveda was.
The game needed something different and instead we just got the same old, same old.
The sooner Augustin is in the starting XI the better.
