Marcelo Bielsa said that some Leeds United players returning from injury will be involved in the Under-23s game tomorrow against Wolves.
He confirmed that Gaetano Berardi would play another 45 minutes after his return from injury on Monday this week.
But his cryptic words have got a lot of fans talking about who they’re going to see in action tomorrow.
We think it will be Ian Poveda and Robin Koch.
Poveda was an unused sub in the Under-23s on Monday. It makes sense that he’s one of the players that Bielsa is talking about.
It doesn’t sound like the other will be either Kalvin Phillips, Rodrigo or Jamie Shackleton.
Bielsa said of their fitness for the West Ham game: “It all depends how they evolve in the following days”.
The other option is Koch.
The German centre-back was back in training this week and is itching to get back on the pitch.
Two weeks ago he posted on Twitter, “Can’t wait to be back at Elland Road”.
Berardi came back into the Under-23s after just two weeks of training – and he had been out for eight months with a serious ACL injury.
While we don’t want to rush Koch back, he will be desperate to start playing as soon as possible in order to make it into the Germany squad for the Euros.
After the game with Wolves, there’s a full 10 days before the next Under-23s game.
Getting Koch back on the bench and giving him a 5-10 minute run-out makes total sense to us.
He’s unlikely to play for the first-team for another few weeks, but when he is back it will immediately solve both the issues at the back that Leeds have been having and any future problems with Kalvin Phillips.
We’ll be scouring the team news with added excitement tomorrow.
