Danny Mills namedrops Leeds United in ‘Poor’ assessment of Tottenham trait

Danny Mills namedropped Leeds United when discussing Tottenham and their ability to manage games effectively.

Mills slammed Spurs for their all-out-attacking approach to games under Ange Postecoglou, often resulting in high-scoring affairs at both ends and cited similarities to Daniel Farke’s promotion chasers in the Championship.

The former Leeds defender, speaking live on talkSPORT with Sam Matterface [26 December, 11:44], insisted “no-one cares” about glamour late in a game in favour of seeing out an important result.

“I look at the Tottenham team and they have the nucleus and the basis of a great team; I’ve watched Leeds quite a few times recently and they’re quite a similar team,” Mills said.

“Their game management at times is really poor, because when you’re winning a game, kill it. Go into Mourinho mode, put it in the corners, play for territory. And you win the game 3-1; if you do that, no-one cares about the last 15-20 minutes of a game.

“No-one will pull you up in the press about how you’ve played out the last 15 minutes of that game, because you’ve got three points.”

Leeds United could go top on Boxing Day

While it remains unlikely, Leeds United could end Boxing Day top of the pile having made up a three-point gap on Sheffield United.

The Blades host third-placed Burnley – who boast the Championship’s best defensive record thus far – on Thursday afternoon [26 December], with Leeds then knowing what is required of them when they take on lowly Stoke City at 8pm.

The fixture computer has done Farke’s side a favour as the festive schedule gets well underway, with in-form Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland also meeting in an afternoon showdown at Ewood Park.

Leeds’ trip to the bet365 Stadium could prove a banana skin if Farke’s men aren’t careful, with Stoke possessing difficult players who can spring a surprise.

But should the Whites raise their recently debatable form on the road, they should be able to control the encounter with enough advantage to scoop the three points.
