Michael Dawson shocked by Daniel James moment in Leeds United win v Middlesbrough, ‘wouldn’t expect it’

Michael Dawson was left surprised live on Sky Sports when Daniel James netted for Leeds United against Middlesbrough.

The West Yorkshire club were hosting Michael Carrick’s outfit at Elland Road in Championship action on Saturday (2 December).

Daniel Farke’s side won the clash 3-2 thanks to goals from James, Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe, with Emmanuel Latte Lath scoring a brace for Boro.

“It goes down the left-hand side to Sam Byram, they don’t clear it Boro,” Dawson said live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (3.08pm, 2 December).

“He just hangs it up. You wouldn’t expect it from Dan James, he’s not the biggest. He gets above Paddy McNair who will be so disappointed six yards out. He just heads it down to Seny Dieng’s left-hand post, he has no chance.”

James certainly surprised everyone watching on inside Elland Road when he rose above both McNair and Alex Bangura to head the ball home.

It shows just how hungry the Wales international is at this moment of his career, having not always been a favourite at Elland Road.

But his displays this season have ensured that he is almost undroppable under Farke, despite the manager having a long list of talented attackers to choose from.

James got the nod from the start once more after his start and goal against Swansea City on Wednesday (29 November), with Farke opting to name the exact same team against Boro despite the busy fixture list.

And his faith in his wingers was quickly repaid, with Summerville also finding the back of the net against Carrick’s side.

The displays of the two attackers in recent times mean the likes of Jaidon Anthony and Wilfried Gnonto will more than likely have to continue for deputy roles.

In other Leeds United news, a fresh stance on one Whites loanee has emerged as West Ham, Crystal Palace and Fulham eye the player.
