Micah Richards wowed by what one Leeds ace did in controversial situation vs Liverpool: ‘His body’s on the line’

Micah Richards was certainly impressed as Leeds United put in a superb defensive display to secure a point against Liverpool at Anfield.

Ethan Ampadu was the star for Leeds as they held the Premier League champions to a 0-0 draw, extending their unbeaten run to six games.

Daniel Farke’s side are now seven points clear of the relegation zone and in with a real chance of avoiding an immediate return to the Championship.

However, Liverpool weren’t without their chances on New Year’s Day, and would’ve taken an early lead if it wasn’t for a crucial intervention.

James Justin prevents a certain Liverpool goal

Leeds were very lucky to avoid conceding an early penalty, as Jaka Bijol avoided sanction despite grappling with Hugo Ekitike.

The Liverpool striker still managed to square the ball across the box, where Florian Wirtz looked certain to open the scoring.

However, James Justin, who replaced Jayden Bogle at right-wing back in the starting lineup, came flying across to make the block and thwart Wirtz.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards highlighted Justin’s pivotal challenge as he said: “[Ekitike] is strong here, he’s aggressive.

“It is a sustained hold, as we’ve talked about, but look at Justin at the back, reading it. Wirtz there has got an easy tap-in and he’s done ever so well. But look at that for a tackle. His body’s on the line.”

Leeds player set for spell on the bench after James Justin display

Justin was part of a much-changed Leeds backline at Anfield, as Farke tried to deal with the absence of Joe Rodon.

Rodon picked up an ankle injury against Sunderland and will be out until the middle of January, meaning Sebastiaan Bornauw came in.

Both Bornauw and Justin were superb, with the latter picking up the man of the match award for his performance.
