Meslier stinks in 1/10, Tanaka MOTM – Leeds United player ratings v Hull City

Daniel Farke will be furious with his team after Leeds United threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.

Abu Kamara lobbed Illan Meslier to give the home side an early opener on 4 January, taking the lead into the half-time break, only for Ao Tanaka to bulge the back of the net one minute into the second half.

Dan James completed the comeback before Joel Piroe put the cherry on the top of the cake, only for everything to come tumbling back down after goals from Joao Pedro and Kamara once again.

MOT Leeds News rated each player’s performance out of 10.

Illan Meslier – 1

Made a rash decision to come rushing out of his penalty area, only for Kamara to lob the ball over him. Then, a complete mess-up saw Joao Pedro leap on a chance to get one back, made even worse by Kamara grabbing his brace for a draw.

Jayden Bogle – 4

Continued his attacking streak down the right-hand flank, creating chances galore and even having an effort saved in the opening 45 minutes. Lost far too many individual battles, however.

Joe Rodon – 5

Out-performed a little by his Welsh teammate, Rodon helped lead Farke’s side to victory, staying calm under pressure and barking orders across the pitch. Should have done better for Hull’s equaliser.

Ethan Ampadu – 6

Cool, calm, controlling. What more could you ask for? That was until the Tigers completed a dramatic comeback after Meslier’s error gave them all the hope they needed. Little the defenders could do.

Max Wober (Off for Sam Byram 66′) – 5

Caught out for Kamara’s opening goal, but other than that early moment, the Austrian has looked comfortable at left-back, even creating some key chances in the final third.

Ao Tanaka – 8

Took the game by the scruff of its neck when it was needed most, bending home a beautiful equaliser from outside the penalty area. Not really a surprise to see him linked with a Premier League move.

Joe Rothwell (Off for Josuha Guilavogui 90+1′) – 6

Rarely steps a foot wrong in the Championship, with fans asking for his loan deal to be made permanent this month. Difficult to rank him any higher when Tanaka takes a starring role.

Dan James – 7

Was a little wasteful with some of his chances during the first half, finally making one of them count to complete the turnaround following Hull’s early opener.

Brenden Aaronson stinks out MKM Stadium in Leeds United win

Brenden Aaronson – 4

While the American was not as wasteful as his teammates, he had arguably the best chance to hit the back of the net until Tanaka’s goal. Missed chances look even more damning now.

Manor Solomon – 7

Bagged his fourth goal contribution in five games, putting the ball on a plate for Tanaka to bend a beautiful long-range effort into the far corner.

Joel Piroe (Off for Mateo Joseph 90+1′) – 7

Attempted to be a much-needed leading figure in the final third, taking multiple shots from inside the box but was unable to be his usual clinical self at the MKM Stadium until adding a third to seal the win.
