Meslier ‘furious’ with one Leeds United teammate after huge incident v Portsmouth
Leeds United have been handed their first defeat in 18 games as the Whites lost 1-0 to Portsmouth.
Daniel Farke’s men were unable to penetrate through the Portsmouth defence, as Colby Bishop netted the only goal of the game in the 61st minute.
Leeds’ loss keeps them at the top of the table but the race for Premier League promotion is tighter, with Sheffield United tied on 76 points. Burnley are just two points behind in third position, blowing the race for automatic promotion wide open.
The Whites squandered far too many chances which ultimately resulted in them losing the game.

Ilian Meslier explodes after Portsmouth loss
The game was all square at half-time and Leeds United goalkeeper Ilian Meslier had a very quiet first half as he hardly had anything to do throughout the opening 45 minutes.
With all to play for, Leeds pushed in the second half and came agonisingly close to scoring via Joel Piroe and Junior Firpo, but it was clear that it wasn’t going to happen.
Portsmouth did not waste time in punishing Farke’s men for their inefficiency as Bishop scored his fifth goal of the 2024-25 Championship season after a hopeful forward ball.

Connor Ogilvie launched a long ball towards Bishop who chased and got to the ball before Meslier and clipped the ball into the net. Joe Rodon did not do enough to stop Bishop, leading to a huge argument.
Following the goal, Meslier was seen to be furious with Rodon, who immediately bit back.
Graham Smyth spotted the incident, writing on X: “Goal Portsmouth. Rodon and Meslier furious with one another. Each though the other would deal with it and Bishop got in between them to nip in and net off the post.”
Championship race blown wide open
With Sheffield United and Burnley both winning this weekend against Preston and Luton, there are only two points now separating the trio.
Leeds’ unbeaten run came to an end and now they need to regroup and figure out a way to start afresh as they have looked a bit sloppy in the last few games.
The West Yorkshire club take on Millwall at Elland Road next up on Wednesday and they will look to return to winning ways, preventing any further slip-ups in the race for promotion.
