Merson cannot believe Leeds United luck v Swansea after footage he just saw

Paul Merson was stunned when Leeds United came close to conceding in the first half of their encounter with Swansea City.

With Sheffield United winning on Friday, the pressure was on Leeds to secure all three points to retain their spot at the summit of the Championship.

Daniel Farke made a handful of surprise changes to his side, which seemed to pay off when Brenden Aaronson gave the Whites the lead in the opening 60 seconds.

However, Leeds failed to build on that momentum, with Swansea coming close to scoring on several occasions, with the Whites having to make do with a 2-2 draw.

Leeds fortunate after Swansea moment

Leeds entered the game as favourites, but Swansea were the ones looking the most threatening, especially in the opening 45 minutes.

The Welsh outfit were forced to rue a missed penalty alongside several other chances, one of which left Merson in disbelief.

The first half was a tight contest.

Swansea looked to take advantage of set-piece situations, with one in particular causing a threat to the Leeds backline.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (29 March, 3:24pm), Merson said: “[Swansea] have a free kick on the right, it’s whipped in left-footed and it’s a brilliant ball in and [Ben] Cabango gets in and his header hits the post, [Illan] Meslier turns round it falls back into his hands.

“You couldn’t write it. All the luck is on Leeds’ side at the moment.”

Farke needs to get more out of his squad

With seven games left in the Championship season, Leeds know of the importance to secure promotion back to the Premier League, though performances need to improve massively if that is to be achieved at Elland Road.

After the disappointment of missing out on promotion last season, the Whites will not want to repeat that shortcoming, having once looked as though they had already sealed it just a few weeks ago.

Farke will not be pleased with the result against the Welsh outfit, and he will know deep down that there are major improvements to be made if their early-season form is to return until the end of the campaign in order to cement their position back in the top flight.
