Max Wober dubbed ‘Outstanding’ after what he did for Leeds United on Sky
Andy Hinchcliffe was left amazed by Max Wober after his goal for Leeds United in their 2-0 win against Derby County.
The Whites welcomed Derby to Elland Road as they looked to get back to winning ways and return to the top of the table in the Championship.
Max Wober was not named in Daniel Farke’s starting line-up for the game but was brought on as a substitution in the 21st minute after Junior Firpo was forced off with an injury.
In what was just his third appearance of the season, the defender showed his quality as he made it 2-0 to his side in the 44th minute.
Hinchcliffe was impressed with the 26-year-old’s contribution as he said on commentary for talkSPORT [7 December, 13:15]: “What a substitution from Daniel Farke bringing on Max Wober.
“It’s a defensive move but playing left-back for Leeds, you’ve got to step forward, you’ve got to be willing to get into advanced positions and that’s all Wober does here.
“His attacking instincts are outstanding. He’s on the move with the ball, he’s out wide with Aaronson so he’s not standing and watching, waiting for the ball to come to him. He’s making a move like a striker to get into a dangerous position and that’s why he scores but just how high he is up the pitch is where Daniel Farke would’ve wanted him.
“There’s a bit of good luck with that break of the ball of Jerry Yates but his positioning, the movement of Wober is why he’s able to tuck that ball home and 2-0, it’s a long way back for Derby now.”
Max Wober impressed for Leeds United against Derby County
After making his first start in 18 months for the Whites, the Austrian came back with a bang against Derby.
Although he wasn’t starting the game, he came on for Firpoe and was ready to take his chance and show he is fit and ready to go after a period on the sidelines missing out through injury.
Despite being a defender, as Hinchcliffe says, the 26-year-old got into a great attacking position up the pitch and was able to score the goal that gave his side a safety net going into half-time.

We have seen plenty of goals from Farke’s side this year and as a team that are looking to get promoted, this is something they will need to keep providing until the end of the season which is why it’s useful to have goals coming from players all over the pitch.
In addition to this, Wober’s performance once he came on serves as a massive statement to his boss that he is able to impact on the side both defensively, with the Whites keeping a clean sheet, as well as at the top end of the field.
In other Leeds United news, Farke’s update on Patrick Bamford could mean Mateo Joseph finds his minutes limited.
