Mateo Joseph disappointed after what he did in Leeds United loss v Millwall

Leeds United were eliminated from the FA Cup after a 2-0 loss to Millwall on Saturday.

The Whites are top of the Championship with a five-point margin to Burnley but crashed out of the cup at the expense of the 14th-placed Lions.

Daniel Farke made ten changes to his starting line-up from the 2-0 away win at Coventry with Daniel James and Joe Rodon absent from the matchday squad.

Mateo Joseph was given a rare chance to lead the line but failed to impress in the contest at Elland Road.

Former Whites star Aidy White was not impressed with the Spaniard’s performance in the defeat to the fellow second-tier side.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds (8 February, 13:52 pm), White said: “I don’t feel like he has had his strongest performance today.

“He’ll be disappointed with that because it was another opportunity for him, things have just bounced off him.

“Made a couple of wrong decisions as always his work rate is never questioned, puts himself around really well with his body and his attitude, just hasn’t quite gone his way.”

Mateo Joseph will concern Leeds United

Daniel Farke may not be too concerned with the fact that his side have exited the FA Cup.

They have bigger issues, a tight Championship promotion battle, and that was outlined by the number of changes that the German made to his starting team for the contest.

Their focus is on securing automatic promotion to the Premier League and maintaining their significant buffer at the top of the division in the run-in after the heartbreak fashion they missed out last season.

However, Farke may be worried about the performance of his backup striker, who has notched just three goals in 32 appearances so far this campaign.

His underwhelming campaign continued as the 21-year-old recorded just 26 touches in the contest, the least amount of any outfield player to play 90 minutes. [Fotmob]

His 53 per cent pass accuracy meant that the Whites constantly lost the ball in the final third and ultimately they paid the price.

The failure to sign an attacker in the winter transfer window could come back to haunt the Elland Road outfit with Joseph failing to make an impact once again.

The Yorkshire club recognised that with their pursuit of Southampton striker Cameron Archer failed in the final few days of the window.

Luckily for Farke, his wingers and Joel Piroe are much more prolific in front of goals but the form of the young Spaniard will concern him if the Dutchman suffers an injury.
